Sailor Moon Manga #3 by Naoko Takeuchi is set to be released January 17, 2012.

Sailor Moon is my all time favourite anime/manga series. I was first exposed to it when I was in Grade 2 and now as a 23 year old my love for the series hasn’t diminished at all. The manga is absolutely gorgeous and the story is even better. Many people don’t like Sailor Moon because they have been exposed to the English dubbed anime in North America, with it’s repeated  and censored storyline. The manga is much different. It is fast paced and contains so many elements that I love including strong female protagonists, elemental affinities, life and death, LGBTQ themes, a mixture of religious symbols to make you think about all the differences, personal responsibility, and the importance of self confidence. In addition, the manga starts off so happy that it always brightens up my mood. As an older reader, I am finding more things about the series that I originally missed such as looking at the series from a feminist perspective. There’s always something to think about.

Questions for readers:

  1. Do you read manga? If not, why?
  2. What manga do you read?
  3. Are you a Sailor Moon fan? 🙂
  4. When was the last time you read a comic?
  5. Do you think comics are too “young” for your age, or that there is an age that you should stop reading them?

  1. Yay! I am waiting for this, too!!

I read manga (not as much recently, and I’m not sure why that is), and I think that there isn’t an age that it “too old” for comics. It’s just another way to tell a story, and I love the combination of images and prose.

  2. Great pick! I haven’t picked up #2 yet, but I adored #1.

Do you read manga? Sometimes but not often, just Sailor Moon really.
What manga do you read? Sailor Moon.
Are you a Sailor Moon fan? My son’s name is Darien…you tell me…
When was the last time you read a comic? I started reading Sailor V a few nights ago but not enjoying it as much as Sailor Moons.
Do you think comics are too “young” for your age, or that there is an age that you should stop reading them? Nah…age is irrelevant.

  3. Awesome pick Crystal! I love Sailor Moon! Grew up watching this. ❤

Unfortunately, I don't read manga but I feel like I should!

    • I grew up watching it, too! I see that you are from California, which means that you have access to the SM manga! It is being re-released in North America and two of the Sailor Moon manga and two of the Codename: Sailor V manga have already been released. 🙂

  4. I grew up watching Sailor Moon, but I never did get in to Manga – mostly because I feel like I can get through one too quickly and I don’t want it to end! If there was one series which would get me to give an honest effort with Manga, it would definitely be Sailor Moon; great pick!

    Thanks for stopping by!

  5. I used to watch old Sailor Moon videos when I was little. Cool choice.

  6. I don’t read Manga. Guess not enough exposure to it. I did love the Sailor Moon cartoons immensely. A much different choice than what I’m used to seeing.

  7. Eek! Sailor Moon! I miss watching/ playing this as a kid so much. I got the first book when it came out a few months back, but I don’t have the second yet. Can’t wait for this one, either. 🙂

  8. I don’t read Manga, but my husband and daughter do. My daughter is actually a huge Sailor Moon fan so I may have to pick up this series for her. I wasn’t aware of it before 🙂 I don’t read comics either, but my husband is an artist and publishes his own, he also has quite a huge collection. I’m not sure why I never got into it. Thanks for sharing!

I love drawing manga 🙂 never read it though, I knew a girl who loved it and she would always tell me about it. No I don’t think it’s too young! that’s stupid anyway thanks for stopping by :).

  12. Somehow I’ve lived my life without exposure to Sailor Moon. I mean, I’m aware of it, but I’ve never read the manga or seen the cartoon. I haven’t really read any proper manga, but I’m very fond of comics and graphic novels.

    Thanks for stopping by WFTM!
